For thousands of Goans, particularly from the Bahujan community, RGP was never merely a political party. It emerged as a platform for self-expression, self-respect, and political empowerment. It gave voice to generations of frustration, aspirations, and emotions that had long remained unheard within Goa’s political landscape.

A Movement at the Crossroads

Today, however, the party finds itself at a crossroads. Internal disagreements, public exchanges, factionalism, and leadership conflicts have cast a shadow over a movement that once appeared destined to reshape Goa’s political future. The question many Goans are now asking is whether this flame of change is slowly fading away or whether the current crisis can become an opportunity for renewal and resurgence.

Leadership Dynamics

Party president Manoj Parab played a crucial role in mobilising thousands of young people through his aggressive style, sharp political commentary, and fearless articulation of public concerns. At the same time, MLA Viresh Borkar has established himself through his performance in the Legislative Assembly, his composed temperament, and his ability to engage with issues in a measured and mature manner. Both leaders have contributed significantly to the growth of the party and the movement.

However, whenever multiple centres of influence emerge within a political organisation, maintaining unity becomes a test of leadership and organisational maturity.

Opposition and External Pressures

Politics is not fought only in legislatures or election campaigns. Often, opponents seek to weaken emerging forces by encouraging internal divisions. RGP’s rise unsettled not only the ruling establishment but also several opposition parties. In many instances, RGP successfully performed the role that traditional opposition parties had failed to play. It articulated public concerns, challenged the government aggressively, and attracted a large segment of politically conscious youth.

Naturally, many feared that if RGP continued to grow, it would diminish the relevance of established opposition forces. In such circumstances, subtle narratives began to emerge. Comparisons between leaders became common. One leader was portrayed as reasonable and mature, while another was characterised as aggressive and confrontational. Whether deliberate or incidental, such narratives inevitably create divisions within any organisation.

Factionalism and Vulnerability

Young political activists, many of whom are still learning the complexities of political strategy, can easily become vulnerable to such influences. The result is factionalism, social media battles, public disagreements, and ultimately a weakening of the organisation’s collective purpose.

The Role of Supporters

Another significant strength of RGP has always been its vast network of supporters and well-wishers. Many of these individuals never contested elections, held party positions, or occupied centre stage. Yet they played a vital role in building goodwill for the movement. Through conversations in villages, workplaces, social circles, and online platforms, they helped create an atmosphere of optimism around RGP.

Unfortunately, supporters often feel alienated when political leaders dismiss criticism or advice with the argument that only those actively working on the ground have the right to speak. Every individual contributes differently. Not everyone can enter electoral politics or dedicate their entire lives to activism. Yet their support, goodwill, and constructive feedback remain invaluable to any movement. A political organisation must never underestimate the importance of its silent supporters.

The Danger of Ego

Another dangerous tendency that affects many movements is the habit of capitalising on personal sacrifice. When leaders begin to emphasise their sacrifices repeatedly, claiming exclusive ownership of achievements while attributing failures to others, the focus shifts away from the cause and towards individual personalities. No movement can survive for long when personal recognition becomes more important than collective purpose.

Goa’s Challenges and the Need for Opposition

This issue is particularly relevant in Goa today. The state faces numerous challenges, including environmental degradation, unemployment, unplanned development, land conversion controversies, demographic concerns, infrastructure pressures, and governance deficits. At such a time, strong and effective opposition voices are more necessary than ever.

Democracy does not permit the luxury of indifference. It is not enough to argue that those who elected the government should simply live with the consequences of their choice. The responsibility of the opposition extends beyond electoral politics. It includes questioning the government, representing public sentiment, and ensuring accountability. When opposition forces remain silent, democracy itself suffers.

The Real Challenge

That is why the greatest challenge before RGP today is not confronting the ruling party but engaging in honest introspection. Both Manoj Parab and Viresh Borkar must rise above personal differences and recognise the larger responsibility they carry. Resolving disagreements through dialogue is not a sign of weakness; it is a sign of political maturity.

History offers numerous examples of movements that were weakened not by external opponents but by internal conflicts. At the same time, history also shows that organisations capable of self-correction often emerge stronger from periods of crisis. The path RGP chooses today will determine its future relevance.

The Way Forward

Thousands of young Goans saw their aspirations reflected in this movement. Many viewed RGP as a vehicle for meaningful political change. The silence and uncertainty surrounding the party today are therefore deeply unsettling, not only for its members but also for a broader section of society that invested hope in its success.

This discomfort is not driven by curiosity or entertainment. It arises from concern for the future of a movement that many believed could transform Goa’s political landscape.

The need of the hour is not victory over one another but unity of purpose. It is not personal pride but collective responsibility. It is not the triumph of individuals but the survival of an idea.

If Goa truly comes first, then personal egos, misunderstandings, and political rivalries must take a back seat. A few compromises, a few difficult conversations, and even a few swallowed grievances may be necessary if they help preserve a movement that still has much to contribute to Goa.

The people of Goa are still watching. They are still hoping. They are still waiting.

For their sake, and for the future of the movement itself, RGP must find a way to heal its divisions and reignite the flame that once inspired an entire generation.

The torch that lit the hopes of many Goans must not be allowed to fade away. It must burn brighter than ever before.

The Revolutionary Goans Party (RGP) has inspired hope among Goa’s youth, emerging as a platform for self-expression, self-respect, and political empowerment, giving voice to unheard frustrations and aspirations.
