Bambolim, June 16<\/strong>: Multi-Tasking Staff (MTS) working in the Cardiology and Cardio Vascular Thoracic Surgery Unit of the Goa Medical College and Hospital (GMC), Bambolim, have submitted a representation to Chief Minister Dr. Pramod Sawant seeking regularisation of their services after serving on a contractual basis for over 12 years.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In a memorandum submitted to the Chief Minister on June 15, the employees stated that they have been continuously working in the Cardiology Unit since 2013 and have contributed significantly to patient care and the smooth functioning of the department.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The staff members pointed out that despite rendering uninterrupted service for more than a decade, they continue to remain on contractual appointments without job security or the benefits available to regular government employees.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

According to the representation, the prolonged continuation of employees on temporary contracts is unfair and adversely affects their livelihoods. The employees have urged the government to address what they describe as an injustice faced by long-serving contractual workers in essential healthcare services.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The staff have also referred to the Supreme Court’s judgment in the case of Jaggo vs Union of India, stating that the ruling highlights the need to regularise long-serving temporary employees in public institutions. They argued that lengthy and uninterrupted service in essential roles warrants consideration for regularisation and that temporary contracts should not be misused to deny legitimate employment benefits.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The memorandum further states that government institutions should lead by example in ensuring fair and stable employment practices. The employees have expressed confidence that they fulfil the criteria laid down by the Supreme Court and have appealed to the Chief Minister to intervene and regularise their services at the earliest.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The representation has been acknowledged by the Office of the Chief Minister at the Secretariat in Porvorim.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The demand comes amid growing concerns over the large number of contractual and temporary employees working across various government departments in Goa, many of whom have completed several years of service without being regularised.<\/p>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
