Curchorem, October 27: Former Goa Pradesh Congress Committee (GPCC) President Amit Patkar launched the ‘Super Me – Yes to Life, Yes to Help’ awareness campaign at Sarvodaya High School, Curchorem, on Tuesday, with a call for collective action to protect Goa’s younger generation from drug abuse and mental health challenges.

‘Yes to Life, Yes to Help’ initiative aims to promote drug awareness, mental well-being and a supportive environment for students

The initiative focuses on educating students about the dangers of substance abuse, encouraging responsible decision-making and creating a safe environment where children can openly discuss their problems and seek help without fear or stigma.

The programme featured an awareness session by Dr. Shankar Komarpant, a thought-provoking skit by Shri Chandreshwar Kala Maharaj Sangh and an interactive presentation aimed at engaging students in meaningful discussions on drug prevention and mental well-being.

Addressing the gathering, Patkar stressed that protecting children from drugs should not become a political concern limited to election periods but must remain a continuous social responsibility.

“Goa’s future is sitting in our classrooms. Protecting our children requires consistent action, awareness and collective responsibility. Every child deserves a safe environment to pursue their dreams and the confidence to seek help whenever needed,” Patkar said.

He emphasised that seeking assistance should never be viewed as a weakness and urged students to speak openly about their difficulties rather than suffer in silence.

Patkar also highlighted the importance of involving parents, teachers and educational institutions in tackling the growing concern over substance abuse among young people.

Announcing plans to expand the campaign, he said the ‘Super Me’ initiative would be taken to schools across the Curchorem constituency, with parents and teachers actively involved in its next phase.

He expressed gratitude to the management, principal, teachers and staff of Sarvodaya High School for supporting the initiative.

Appealing for greater community participation, Patkar urged parents and teachers to listen to children without judgement and build trust through regular communication.

“Protecting our children is not just the responsibility of schools or parents; it is a collective responsibility. Together, we must work towards a healthier, safer and drug-free future for Goa,” he said.

The campaign seeks to build a sustained movement against drug abuse while promoting emotional well-being, awareness and timely intervention among schoolchildren.

With its message, ‘Yes to Life, Yes to Help,’ the initiative calls upon families, schools and society to unite in safeguarding the future of Goa’s children.
