Vasco, 6 November: A fresh controversy has erupted over the transfer of Mormugao Municipal Council (MMC) Chief Officer Siddhivinayak Naik, with Vasco MLA Krishna Daji Salkar facing allegations of making contradictory public statements regarding dangerous and dilapidated buildings in the municipal jurisdiction.<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n

A statement questioning the MLA’s conduct has demanded that defamation proceedings be initiated against Salkar for allegedly maligning the Chief Officer and creating a misleading public narrative over the officer’s actions.<\/p>\n

The controversy follows Salkar’s public allegation that Chief Officer Naik had unnecessarily dragged his name into the issue of unsafe buildings. The MLA reportedly maintained that he had sought action only against two specific structures \u2014 Premavati Building and Raghavendra Building at Baina \u2014 and accused the officer of defaming him.<\/p>\n

Salkar also reportedly threatened defamation proceedings against the officer and demanded a vigilance inquiry.<\/p>\n

However, those questioning the MLA’s claims have pointed to a widely circulated video in which Salkar allegedly refers to several dangerous buildings across the Mormugao municipal jurisdiction.<\/p>\n

According to the statement, the video shows the MLA mentioning buildings opposite Vasco Police Station, Raghavendra Apartments, Gozalia buildings and another nearby structure. He is also heard warning that officials could face criminal liability if they failed to act against unsafe buildings.<\/p>\n

The statement argues that these remarks contradict Salkar’s subsequent claim that he had raised concerns about only two buildings.<\/p>\n
