Panaji, July 8: Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) Goa President Valmiki Naik has demanded that the Goa Government provide ₹10 lakh health insurance coverage to every Goan family without any conditions, stating that quality healthcare is a fundamental right and not a privilege.
In a letter addressed to Chief Minister Dr. Pramod Sawant, Naik has sought an appointment to discuss the issue and urged the Government to strengthen the State’s healthcare support system.
Naik pointed out that nearly 90 per cent of Goans depend on government healthcare facilities, but many essential treatments and specialised medical services are not available in government hospitals. As a result, patients are often forced to seek treatment in private hospitals, where the cost of healthcare has increased significantly.
He further stated that the existing Deen Dayal Swasthya Seva Yojana (DDSSY) insurance scheme is inadequate to meet the growing healthcare needs of the people. According to AAP, the scheme currently covers only 447 medical procedures, compelling many Goans to bear the expenses of several treatments from their own pockets.
Drawing a comparison with Punjab, Naik said the AAP Government in Punjab has expanded health insurance coverage to 2,350 medical procedures, providing far greater protection to citizens.
AAP leaders maintained that every Goan family should be provided ₹10 lakh health insurance cover without any eligibility conditions, ensuring that no citizen is denied quality healthcare due to financial constraints.
The party reiterated that access to affordable and quality healthcare is the right of every Goan and urged the State Government to take immediate steps to enhance health insurance coverage for all families.
