Panaji, July 9: Chief Minister Pramod Sawant on Thursday launched the Financial Assistance Scheme for Setting up Mud Crab Culture Units and the revised Financial Assistance Scheme for Fish Vendors at the National Fish Farmers Day 2026 programme held at Panaji Gymkhana.
The programme was attended by Fisheries and Animal Husbandry Minister Nilkanth Halanrkar, senior government officials, fish farmers, fishermen and other stakeholders.
Addressing the gathering, the Chief Minister lauded the contribution of fish farmers and fishermen towards strengthening Goa’s Blue Economy and ensuring food security. He said the newly launched schemes aim to promote scientific aquaculture, value addition and sustainable livelihoods in the fisheries sector.
During the programme, Dr. Sawant distributed sanction letters and various benefits to more than 500 beneficiaries under the Pradhan Mantri Matsya Sampada Yojana (PMMSY) and various State Government schemes.
Reaffirming the Government’s commitment to the welfare of traditional fishermen, the Chief Minister highlighted initiatives such as Fish Seller Cards, development of modern infrastructure, improved market access and the promotion of crab farming, ornamental fisheries, shellfish culture and aquaculture. He also encouraged the youth to explore fisheries as a modern, technology-driven sector offering significant opportunities for entrepreneurship and employment.
