Salvador do Mundo Panchayat Seeks Detailed Presentation on Chorao Bridge Project Ahead of Public Hearing

Porvorim, July 29: Ahead of the public hearing on the proposed Chorao–Salvador do Mundo Bridge and Approach Road, the Salvador do Mundo Village Panchayat has asked the concerned government agencies to make a comprehensive PowerPoint presentation explaining the project to villagers.

In a letter dated July 23, 2026, Sarpanch Namrata Chodankar has written to the Public Works Department (PWD), Goa State Infrastructure Development Corporation (GSIDC), Goa Institute of Public Administration and Rural Development (GIPARD) and the North Goa Collector in connection with the Social Impact Assessment (SIA) being conducted for the project.

The SIA public hearing, under the Right to Fair Compensation and Transparency in Land Acquisition, Rehabilitation and Resettlement Act, 2013, is scheduled to be held at the Salvador do Mundo Village Panchayat premises at 10 am on August 9.

Gram Sabha on Same Day

Significantly, the Panchayat has also convened its Gram Sabha at 10 am on August 9. The Panchayat has said that a detailed visual presentation is necessary to ensure villagers are adequately informed about the project and can meaningfully participate in the proceedings.

The Panchayat has sought specific information on the alignment of the proposed Chorao–Salvador do Mundo bridge, exact location of the approach road within the village and the point at which the bridge and approach road will terminate or connect in Salvador do Mundo.

Traffic Impact and Connectivity Under Focus

The Panchayat has also sought a detailed traffic circulation plan, including proposed diversion of light and heavy vehicles, entry and exit points and connectivity towards Porvorim, Britona, Pomburpa and adjoining areas.

Information has also been sought on proposed road widening, junction improvements and other traffic management measures associated with the project.

The Panchayat further wants the authorities to disclose the lands proposed to be acquired, government land involved and other relevant project details through maps and illustrations.

Social, Environmental Impact to Be Explained

The presentation should also explain the anticipated benefits of the bridge project as well as measures proposed to mitigate any adverse social and environmental impacts, the Panchayat has said.

According to the letter, a visual presentation would help residents clearly understand the project alignment, traffic management plan and approach road, enabling them to raise informed suggestions and objections during the public hearing.

The Panchayat has requested the concerned departments to depute responsible officers with the necessary presentation equipment on August 9 and assured its cooperation for the proceedings.
