Porvorim, Aug 31: The Aam Aadmi Party on Monday claimed that its MLAs Capt. Venzy Viegas and Cruz Silva cornered the BJP government on alleged irregularities in the Industrial Development Corporation, regularisation of contractual workers, unemployment, corruption and law and order on the first day of the Monsoon Session of the Goa Legislative Assembly.

AAP said MLA Cruz Silva sought details regarding IDC plot transfers, allotments and applicants while raising allegations of corruption in the corporation.

The issue led to heated exchanges with Industries Minister Mauvin Godinho, following which AAP MLAs Venzy Viegas and Cruz Silva, along with Goa Forward Party MLA Vijai Sardesai, rushed into the Well of the House, the party said.

Viegas also raised the issue of contractual workers employed in various government departments for several years without regularisation.

Referring to the AAP government in Punjab, Viegas said that if AAP comes to power in Goa, it would initiate the process of regularising eligible contractual workers in its first Cabinet meeting.

He accused the BJP government of failing to adequately address employment opportunities for Goan youth and the prolonged insecurity faced by contractual workers.

Viegas cited initiatives undertaken in his Benaulim constituency, claiming that through MoUs with educational institutions and private employers, skill-development opportunities and a job portal had been created for job seekers. He questioned why similar initiatives could not be implemented across Goa.

The Benaulim MLA also raised alleged illegalities brought to his notice by residents from different parts of the constituency and flagged environmental concerns in Cavelossim.

AAP said Viegas supported the demand for the constitution of a House Committee to investigate alleged “cross-corruption” within the BJP government.

Earlier, both AAP legislators raised concerns over what they described as the deteriorating law-and-order situation in Goa, citing the recent shooting incident in Porvorim.

Viegas also raised the Mhadei water diversion issue and the increase in prices of essential commodities ahead of Ganesh Chaturthi.

AAP maintained that issues of corruption, unemployment, contractual employment and public safety would remain central to its attack on the government during the Assembly session.
