GMC Issues Notice Over Illegal LPG Parking in Residential Quarters

Bambolim, April 28:
The Goa Medical College & Hospital (GMC), Bambolim, has served a notice to a resident over the alleged unsafe parking and storage of LPG cylinders within government residential quarters, raising serious safety concerns.

According to the Estate Office, Smt. Diona S. Korgaonkar Partner of Babush Gas Agency, Pernem, and wife of GMC Medical Officer Dr. Sanjay Korgaonkar has been flagged for allowing a vehicle (GA-03-K-8990) frequently loaded with LPG cylinders to be parked inside the GMC quarters.
The issue surfaced after reports and videos circulated on social media, including footage shared via the “Gaonkari Channel,” showing LPG-laden vehicles stationed in the locality.
Officials cited provisions under the Liquefied Petroleum Gas (Regulation of Supply and Distribution) Order, 2000 and the Gas Cylinders Rules, 2004, stressing that storing or parking LPG-loaded vehicles in residential areas without proper licensing and safety compliance is strictly prohibited due to the risk of fire or explosion.
“The practice poses a direct threat to the lives and property of residents,” the notice warned.
The resident has been directed to immediately cease storage of LPG cylinders and refrain from parking any LPG-loaded or unloaded vehicles within the quarters. The Estate Office has cautioned that strict action will follow if the directives are ignored.
The notice was issued by the Director (Administration)/Estate Officer, GMC Bambolim, in the interest of public safety.
Smt. Diona S. Korgaonkar is a former sarpanch, current panch of Curca-Bambolim, and president of BJP Mahila Morcha, St. Andre constituency. Observers now await whether the government will act decisively in this case.
