Govt Urges Shift to PNG in Tiswadi & Ponda Amid LPG Supply Concerns

Panaji: In view of the prevailing geopolitical situation and constraints affecting LPG supply, the Government of Goa has issued a public notice urging residents, particularly in Tiswadi and Ponda, to switch to Piped Natural Gas (PNG) connections.


Government Push for PNG Adoption

The Department of Civil Supplies and Consumer Affairs stated that PNG offers a safer, more reliable, and uninterrupted alternative to LPG.

Authorities highlighted that Goa Natural Gas Pvt. Ltd. (GNGPL), a subsidiary of GAIL and BPCL, has continued to maintain normal gas supply across North Goa and Ponda despite ongoing challenges.


Infrastructure Already in Place

According to the notice, PNG infrastructure is already available in several large housing societies in Tiswadi and Ponda.

Residents have been encouraged to complete the necessary formalities to avail connections for both domestic and commercial use.


Incentives Announced

The government has announced a range of incentives to promote the transition to PNG, including:

  • Free registration worth ₹500
  • Referral benefits up to ₹62,000
  • Reimbursement of up to ₹6,000 for third-party inspection
  • Up to 90% rebate on meter security deposits

Positive Feedback from Existing Users

Officials said existing PNG consumers have expressed satisfaction with the service, citing convenience and reliability.


Public Appeal for Energy Security

The government has appealed to citizens to adopt PNG as a step towards ensuring energy security and supporting national resilience during uncertain global conditions.
