IPL Betting Racket Busted in Sangolda: Six Arrested by Goa Cyber Crime Police

Panaji, April 16, 2026:
In a late-night crackdown, the Cyber Crime Police Station, Goa, busted an online IPL betting racket operating from Sangolda and arrested six persons caught red-handed during the raid.

The operation, carried out on April 15 between 9:00 pm and midnight, led to the seizure of six laptops, ₹31,000 in cash, around 50 ATM cards, multiple mobile phones, and several mule account kits, collectively valued at approximately ₹10 lakh.

Accused Caught Red-Handed

The arrested individuals have been identified as:

Gediya Raj Dilipbhai (Surat, Gujarat)

Bhimraj Meena (Udaipur, Rajasthan)

Nilesh Ratibhai Hirani (Surat, Gujarat)

Shani Dipakbhai Chavada (Surat, Gujarat)

Rokad Yash Jaysukhbhai (Amreli, Gujarat)

Prashant Harish Trivedi (Bardhaman, West Bengal)

Online Betting via Apps and Mule Accounts

According to police, the accused were actively accepting cricket bets through online platforms identified as “MG Lion” and “Kabook 1”. The operation involved multiple mobile phones connected via Wi-Fi, using SIM cards registered under different names and credentials.

Investigators revealed that the accused used mule bank accounts to route and transfer betting money, indicating organised financial fraud and identity theft to facilitate illegal gambling activities.

Police Operation and Legal Action

The raid was conducted under the supervision of SP Cyber Crime Raju Raut Desai, with a team led by PI Deepak Pednekar and supported by PSI Navin Naik and other staff members.

All six accused have been booked under Section 66-C of the Information Technology Act (identity theft), read with Section 3(5) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), and Sections 3 and 4 of the Goa Police Gambling Act.

Further Investigation Underway

Police are in the process of obtaining custody remand of the accused and are continuing investigations to trace the wider network behind the betting operation, including financial links and possible interstate connections.
