Women Take Centre Stage in Panaji Dialogues on Leadership and Empowerment

Panaji, April 15: Women’s leadership and empowerment were at the forefront in Panaji on Tuesday as two major events—the “Town Hall of Women” at the Menezes Braganza Hall and the Nari Shakti Sammelan at the Institute Menezes Braganza—brought together women leaders, professionals, and changemakers from across Goa.

The programmes focused on strengthening women’s participation in governance and decision-making, with deliberations highlighting the importance of the Nari Shakti Vandan Adhiniyam and the provision of 33% reservation for women. Participants from diverse sectors engaged in discussions aimed at fostering inclusive and representative leadership.

Addressing the gathering, Chief Minister Pramod Sawant described the legislation as a “historic step towards women empowerment.” He stated that under the leadership of Narendra Modi, the country is moving towards a women-centric governance model.

“Women are not just participants, they are leaders of change,” Sawant said, emphasising their growing contribution across governance, entrepreneurship, and public service.

Highlighting Goa’s initiatives, the Chief Minister pointed to gender budgeting, welfare schemes, and efforts to boost financial independence. He also underlined the role of Self-Help Groups in enhancing economic participation, along with initiatives such as Pink Force and Pink Auto aimed at improving safety and employment opportunities for women.

The events were attended by several prominent personalities, including GCCI President Pratima Dhond, LUB President Pallavi Salgaonkar, Padma Shri awardee Shashi Soni, MLA Delilah Lobo, Dr. Ida Mukherjee, Bhakti Dempo, Dr. Vidya Veku Gaude, and other dignitaries from academia, industry, and social sectors.

The twin events served as a platform for dialogue and collaboration, reinforcing the importance of empowering women as key drivers of societal and economic progress.
