Cruz Silva Urges CM’s Intervention Over Goa University PG Admission Crisis

Margao, July 17: Velim MLA Engr. Cruz Silva has written to Chief Minister Dr. Pramod Sawant, seeking urgent intervention in what he described as a serious admission crisis affecting several Goa University students who have lost their postgraduate seats following controversial examination results.

In a letter dated July 13, Cruz Silva stated that students who had qualified and secured admission to postgraduate programmes such as Master of Computer Applications (MCA), Data Science and Artificial Intelligence at Goa University were forced to lose their admissions after being declared unsuccessful in the Software Quality Assurance paper of the Third Year B.Sc. Computer Science examination.

According to the MLA, nearly 48 out of around 120 students failed in the single paper, while more than 70 students have applied for revaluation, claiming they received unusually low marks.

He said the outcome has created serious hardships for students. Several candidates who had already secured postgraduate admissions at Goa University were reportedly asked to vacate their seats, which have since been allotted to other students. Cruz Silva also pointed out that some students who had taken admission to institutions outside Goa after paying substantial fees are now unable to join those institutions and are unlikely to recover the money already paid.

Describing the situation as an academic, emotional and financial crisis for students and their families, the Velim MLA urged the Government and Goa University authorities to take immediate corrective measures.

Among the key demands made in the letter are:

A free and comprehensive revaluation of the Software Quality Assurance paper.

Protection of postgraduate admissions for students who are declared successful after revaluation.

Creation of additional postgraduate seats for students who had already lost their admissions because the original seats have been filled by other candidates.

A thorough inquiry into the evaluation process to ensure transparency, fairness and restore the credibility of Goa University.

Cruz Silva stressed that the matter requires urgent attention as the future of many students is at stake. He appealed to the Chief Minister to intervene immediately and ensure timely relief for the affected students and their parents.
