Panaji, October 24: Goa Pradesh Congress Committee (GPCC) President Girish Chodankar has questioned the alleged deployment of a police escort for a luxury car reportedly worth ₹3.50 crore, demanding that Chief Minister Dr. Pramod Sawant disclose the vehicle’s ownership, its users and the official justification for providing police protection.

Raising concerns over the possible misuse of police resources, Chodankar asked whether the vehicle belongs to a politically influential individual and whether its occupants are entitled to such security under established government protocols.

“Who owns this ₹3.50-crore luxury car? Who travels in it, and why is a police escort being provided? Is this an official security arrangement or a special privilege extended to someone influential?” Chodankar questioned.

He further claimed that the vehicle’s registration number bears similarities to those of other vehicles associated with the Chief Minister, making it necessary for the government to clarify the matter and remove public suspicion.

Chodankar demanded that the government disclose whether the car is registered in the name of a private individual, public representative or someone connected with the administration. He also sought clarification on whether the vehicle is used by the Chief Minister, a Union Minister or any other influential person.

Questioning the deployment of police personnel, the Congress leader asked who authorised the escort, under which security provisions it was sanctioned and who bears the expenditure. He also sought details about whether the vehicle travels beyond Goa into neighbouring Maharashtra and Karnataka.

Chodankar maintained that police manpower must primarily serve public safety, crime prevention and law enforcement rather than become a symbol of personal privilege.

“At a time when ordinary citizens expect adequate police protection, the government must explain why police personnel are accompanying such an expensive vehicle. Public resources cannot be used to extend special privileges without proper justification,” he said.

The GPCC President demanded that Chief Minister Sawant issue a categorical clarification and make public the relevant rules governing police escorts for private vehicles.

He also called for an investigation and appropriate action if any irregularities are established.

“Transparency and accountability must apply equally to everyone, irrespective of political connections. The Chief Minister must come clean and answer these questions in the public interest,” Chodankar asserted.
