Pernem, July 18: Mandrem Police have registered a case against several persons following an alleged assault on an advocate and his client at Temwada, Morjim, in connection with a dispute over a court-ordered demolition.

According to the police complaint, the incident occurred at around 11.45 am on July 17. Advocate Ankur, 32, alleged that the son and daughter of Dileep Morje, Dileep Morje himself, and around eight to ten unidentified persons formed an unlawful assembly and confronted him and his client, Anil Prabhakar Naik, over a demolition order passed by the court in a contempt petition filed by Naik.

The complaint alleges that the accused, some allegedly armed with deadly weapons, blocked the complainant’s Grand Vitara car by parking a Tata Nexon behind it, preventing them from leaving the spot. The group allegedly damaged the vehicle by pelting stones and striking it with an iron rod.

The advocate and his client were then allegedly pulled out of the vehicle and assaulted with fists, kicks and concrete bricks. The complainant reportedly sustained grievous injuries, while his client also suffered bodily injuries and had his clothes torn during the incident.

It is further alleged that the accused threatened to kill the complainant and his client if they lodged any complaint against them.

Mandrem Police registered Crime No. 66/2026 at 5.22 am on July 18 under Sections 189(2), 191(2), 191(3), 126(2), 324(4), 118(2), 115(2), 351(3) read with Section 190 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), 2023.
