BJP Government Misusing Power to Silence Voices Against Corruption, Say Sherlekar Supporters

Panaji: Strong criticism has emerged against the BJP government after complaints were reportedly filed against social activist Swapnesh Sherlekar, who has been raising his voice on issues of alleged corruption and destruction of Goa.

Supporters of Sherlekar alleged that the government is attempting to intimidate activists and suppress dissent by encouraging complaints against those who question its decisions. They said the Constitution of India guarantees every citizen the fundamental right to freedom of speech and expression, and any attempt to curb this right is an attack on democracy.

According to them, Sherlekar has been speaking on issues concerning Goa’s land, environment and public interest. Instead of addressing the concerns raised, the government is allegedly using pressure tactics to silence him and others who are standing up for Goa.

“This is a clear misuse of power and reflects arrogance. The public voice cannot be crushed through intimidation,” they said.

They further stated that such actions are aimed at creating fear among activists and ordinary citizens who question corruption and policies that affect Goa’s future. However, they asserted that people will not remain silent.

“We stand firmly with Swapnesh Sherlekar and with every citizen who is fighting to protect Goa. The spirit of Goans cannot be suppressed, and the fight for justice, accountability and preservation of our land will continue,” they added.

The issue has once again brought focus on the larger debate over democratic rights, freedom of speech and the right of citizens to question those in power.
