Porvorim, Aug 28: A major firing incident outside Hotel Majestic/Casino Majestic in Porvorim triggered a massive police operation on Friday night after two unidentified assailants allegedly opened fire at director Srinivas Nayak, who escaped unharmed.

According to Nayak’s account, he was about to get into his car when the two men fired three rounds at him. His bodyguard immediately retaliated by firing three rounds, following which the assailants fled the spot by crossing the highway.

“I was about to sit in my car when two assailants fired three rounds at me. My bodyguard fired three rounds in response,” Nayak said, adding that police were examining CCTV footage.

Suspects entered premises around 7.51 pm

CCTV footage reportedly captured the two suspected assailants entering the premises at around 7.51 pm, while the firing took place at approximately 9.30 pm.

Police have obtained images of the suspects and launched a manhunt to trace them. Investigators are examining CCTV footage from the hotel as well as surrounding areas to reconstruct their movements before and after the firing.

Senior police officers supervise investigation

IGP Keshav Ram Chaurasia, IPS, confirmed the firing incident and said police were investigating the case.

Several police teams have been formed to track down the two suspects. Senior officers, including IGP Chaurasia, North Goa SP Harishchandra Madkaikar and SP Vishwesh Karpe, were reported to be personally supervising the investigation.

The Crime Branch has also been roped in as part of the probe.

Forensic team examines firing site

A forensic team visited the site outside Hotel Majestic in Porvorim and examined the area for ballistic and other evidence connected with the shooting.

Police are expected to analyse spent cartridges, CCTV footage and other technical evidence as they work to determine the identity of the attackers and the motive behind the firing.

The incident has caused concern as the assailants allegedly remained in or around the premises for more than an hour before carrying out the attack.

The motive behind the firing remains unclear, while police teams are continuing their search for the two suspects.
