Tuem Panchayat Backs ‘Enough is Enough’ Movement, Raises Alarm Over Villa Projects

Tuem, Pernem: In a significant development reflecting growing grassroots concern, the Tuem Village Panchayat has passed a resolution extending its support to the ‘Enough is Enough’ movement.

The resolution was moved by CA Sanjay Raut and seconded by Adv. Arjun Gawandi during a recent panchayat gramsabha meeting. Both members voiced strong apprehension over the increasing number of proposals seeking land conversion in Tuem village, particularly for villa projects and large-scale residential developments.

Speaking on the resolution, they warned that unchecked approvals of such projects could lead to the gradual disappearance of small, traditional villages like Tuem. They stressed that continued conversion of land for commercial housing could irreversibly alter the social and environmental fabric of the region.

The members also highlighted concerns over large-scale land conversions being proposed across Mandrem and Pernem constituencies, pointing out that such decisions are being taken without adequate assessment of the villages’ biodiversity and ecological carrying capacity.

Calling for collective action, both Raut and Gawandi urged local residents to actively participate in the ‘Enough is Enough’ movement to safeguard Pernem’s identity and ensure the protection of Tuem for future generations.

The resolution signals rising resistance at the village level against rapid and unregulated development, with environmental sustainability and community preservation emerging as key concerns.
