PWD Goa Refutes ₹1,000 Crore Scam Allegations; Says No Work Order Issued to Contractor

Panaji, May 19: The Public Works Department (PWD), Government of Goa, has strongly denied allegations of a “₹1,000 crore scam” in connection with contractor enlistment, calling the claims false, misleading and sensational.In a press note issued by the Office of the Principal Chief Engineer, PWD, the department clarified that the matter relates only to the verification of certain documents submitted during the enlistment process of a contractor under Class I-AA (Super) category.PWD stated that the matter is currently under detailed examination by the competent authorities as per established procedures. The department further claimed that no work order has been issued to the said contractor after the enlistment in the said category.“Portraying the matter as a ₹1,000 crore scam is completely baseless, malicious and far removed from facts,” the department said in its clarification.The press note also stated that some social media influencers and individuals have circulated defamatory and misleading content against the department without verifying facts. PWD said such claims were aimed at tarnishing the image and credibility of a public institution.The department has also warned that it is contemplating appropriate legal action against those spreading false, defamatory and misleading allegations against the department and government officials.PWD maintained that contractor enlistment and tender scrutiny are carried out through a transparent system with multiple levels of technical and administrative checks. It added that any complaint received is examined strictly as per law and due process.The Government of Goa, the press note said, remains committed to transparency, accountability and protection of public interest, while cautioning against the deliberate spread of misinformation and sensationalism.
