Panaji, May 26: The Enough is Enough (EIE) movement has mourned the untimely demise of noted environmental activist and academic Fr. Bolmax Pereira, describing his passing as a huge loss to Goa’s environmental movement and civil society.
As a mark of respect, the movement has cancelled its public meeting scheduled to be held in Mormugao on May 27.
Paying tribute to Fr. Bolmax Pereira, former High Court Judge and EIE leader Retd. Justice Ferdino Rebello said, “Goa has lost one of its fiercest protectors and gentlest souls.”
Justice Rebello stated that Fr. Bolmax was not merely a voice for conservation, but a dedicated crusader who lived and fought for the protection of Goa’s ecology, biodiversity, and community rights.
“Fr. Bolmax didn’t just preach conservation; he lived it on the streets, in the fields, and in the hearts of the Goan people. His fearless advocacy for Goa’s ecology, biodiversity, and community rights was an inspiration to many,” Justice Rebello said.
EIE core committee member Elvis Gomes also expressed grief over the loss, stating that Fr. Bolmax stood like “an immovable pillar against the destruction of our beautiful homeland.”
“His legacy of courage, faith, and environmental stewardship will continue to guide our collective fight for Goa’s future,” Gomes added.
Echoing similar sentiments, EIE Mormugao coordinator Edwin Mascarenhas said Fr. Bolmax’s voice and commitment towards protecting Goa’s natural heritage would continue to inspire generations.
“Fr. Bolmax’s voice will echo in every forest, river, and hill which he so bravely strived to save,” Mascarenhas said.
The movement conveyed heartfelt condolences to the bereaved family, friends, and all those associated with Fr. Bolmax Pereira’s lifelong mission to safeguard Goa’s environment and identity.
