Panaji, June 18: Social activist Sudip Narayan Tamankar has urged the Goa Government to transfer and replace Assistant Motor Vehicle Inspectors (AMVIs) and Motor Vehicle Inspectors (MVIs) currently posted at various border checkposts across the state, alleging that several officers have been stationed at the same locations for extended periods.
In a representation submitted to the Transport Minister on May 20, 2026, Tamankar recalled that he had earlier requested the government in December 2025 to deploy officers who had not previously served at border checkposts and to replace those who had been posted there for several years.
According to the letter, the Transport Minister had reportedly assured that due to time constraints, immediate changes would not be possible during the transfer process implemented from January 1, 2026. However, Tamankar claims he was assured that the matter would be considered on priority during the next transfer cycle after six months.
Tamankar has now reminded the government of that assurance and requested that fresh officers be posted at border checkposts from July 1, 2026.
The representation states that such transfers are necessary to improve the image of the Transport Department and to prevent what he described as a monopoly by officers who have remained posted at border checkpoints for long durations.
The letter specifically lists officials currently posted at major border checkposts, including Patradevi, Dodamarg, Keri, Mollem and Pollem, and notes that some officers have been serving at these locations since 2019, 2020, 2022 and 2023.
Tamankar has requested the Transport Minister to honour the earlier commitment and initiate transfers by deploying officers who have not previously served at border checkposts while relocating those who have held such postings for several years.
A copy of the representation has also been forwarded to the Director of Transport for necessary action.
The demand comes amid increasing public scrutiny of operations at Goa’s border checkposts and calls for greater transparency and accountability in the functioning of the Transport Department.
