Panaji: Congress leader Tulio D’Souza has dismissed reports of a split within the Congress, alleging that the BJP is deliberately spreading a false narrative to mislead the people of Goa and divide opposition votes ahead of the 2027 Assembly elections.
Addressing the media, D’Souza said there is no rift within the party and that Congress leaders and workers are united in their efforts to strengthen the organisation and defeat the BJP in the next elections.
He alleged that the BJP is withdrawing controversial decisions only after facing strong public opposition and warned that the same policies would be revived if the party returns to power. Referring to issues such as the proposed Unity Mall and the urbanisation of villages, he claimed these projects reflect the BJP government’s anti-people agenda.
D’Souza said the Congress has consistently opposed policies that threaten Goa’s identity and environment. He added that Congress legislators have exposed corruption in the BJP government and reiterated the party’s commitment to repeal Section 39A of the TCP Act and other provisions allegedly misused for large-scale land conversions.
Appealing to the people of Goa not to be influenced by what he described as BJP’s propaganda, D’Souza also criticised the government for spending nearly ₹670 crore on events while failing to generate employment opportunities for youth and control rising prices.
