Panaji, August 8, 2026: Bilvadal Parivar celebrated its 13th Foundation Day at the Institute Menezes Braganza Hall in Panaji, recognising distinguished service in medicine and honouring traditional herbal healers from across Goa.
The highlight of the programme was the presentation of the Goa Bhushan Award to renowned spine neurosurgeon Dr Premanand Ramani. Several “Vaidya Mitras” were also felicitated for their contribution to traditional herbal healing practices and community healthcare.
Addressing the gathering, Chief Minister Dr Pramod Sawant praised Bilvadal Parivar for its contribution to Goa’s literary, cultural and social life.
“Indian culture has always viewed health as an integral part of society’s well-being. Ayurveda and traditional healing practices occupy an important place in this heritage,” Sawant said.
He noted that the Vaidya Mitras honoured at the function had served society without seeking publicity. Recognising their contribution, he said, was an important step towards preserving traditional knowledge.
The Chief Minister called for a combination of modern science and traditional knowledge to build a healthier society. He also encouraged the younger generation to scientifically study medicinal plants, home remedies and traditional Indian lifestyles and apply that knowledge for the benefit of the community.
Congratulating Dr Ramani, Sawant said the neurosurgeon’s contribution to medicine at the national and international levels was a matter of pride for Goa.
The programme also showcased Bilvadal Parivar’s work in promoting literature, art, culture and social service. Over the years, the organisation has conducted literary conferences, elocution and Dashavatari drama competitions, poetry gatherings, Bal Sanskar camps, Kirtan Mahotsavs and other cultural programmes.
Those present included Lokmanya Multipurpose Co-operative Society Chairman Kiran Thakur; industrialist Avdhoot Timblo; Bilvadal Parivar President Sagar Javdekar; vice-presidents Dr Rajendra Sakhardande and M.K. Patil; secretary Adv. Karuna Bakre; and other guests and members of the organisation.
