Panaji, 5 September: In a major household welfare initiative, Chief Minister Dr. Pramod Sawant launched the Goa Ujjwala Yojana 2026, under which eligible beneficiaries will receive financial assistance equivalent to the cost of three domestic LPG cylinders every financial year.

The scheme was launched in the presence of Union Minister Shripad Naik, with the Goa government making a ₹100-crore provision for its implementation.

Sawant described the initiative as a significant step towards reducing the financial burden of cooking fuel on Goan households, particularly women who manage day-to-day household expenses.

Under the scheme, eligible beneficiaries will receive financial assistance corresponding to the cost of three domestic LPG cylinders annually. The measure is expected to provide recurring relief to families facing rising household expenditure.

The Chief Minister said the initiative reflects the government’s effort to translate its commitments into concrete benefits for citizens.

“From promise to delivery, the Goa Government is empowering people, supporting families and strengthening household financial security,” Sawant said.

The government has projected the scheme as an important social welfare intervention aimed at ensuring that expenditure on essential cooking fuel does not place an excessive burden on eligible households.

The launch also assumes significance as assistance for LPG cylinders has been an issue of considerable public and political discussion in Goa in recent years. With the rollout of the Goa Ujjwala Yojana 2026, the government has now put in place a dedicated scheme backed by a ₹100-crore budgetary provision to provide assistance for three cylinders annually.

The government said the initiative forms part of its broader agenda of strengthening household financial security and extending targeted assistance to families, with women expected to be among its principal beneficiaries.
