Panaji, Oct 6: Students of the Goa College of Architecture have raised serious concerns over the conduct of their Building Construction examination and subsequent viva, alleging that the question paper was excessively lengthy, the prescribed drafting scale was impractical and the faculty arrangement for the viva differed from what had been communicated to them.

In a representation addressed to the Controller of Examinations, Goa University, the students sought a review of the examination and viva process and appropriate action to ensure fairness and protect students’ academic interests.

According to the representation, the Building Construction examination held on September 28 involved a substantial amount of drafting as well as written work. Students claimed that the volume of work made it “extremely difficult” to complete the entire paper within the stipulated examination time.

They also questioned the drafting scale prescribed in the question paper, contending that it was not practically feasible considering the number and nature of drawings students were required to complete within the available time.

The students further stated that they had earlier submitted a written representation to the Grievance Committee of Goa University, but alleged that they had received no response or communication on their complaint.

Concerns have also been raised over the Building Construction viva conducted on September 29. The students said they had been informed that two internal faculty members would be present for the viva. However, according to their representation, only one faculty member was present and that person was allegedly not from their internal faculty.

The students said this was contrary to the information communicated to them beforehand and created further concern over the manner in which the viva was conducted.

They have now urged Goa University to take cognizance of all the issues, particularly the length of the question paper, feasibility of the drafting scale, faculty arrangements during the viva and the alleged lack of response to their earlier grievance.

The students have requested the University to review the conduct of both the examination and viva and take appropriate action “in the interest of fairness and the academic well-being of the students.”
