RTI Activist Urges Transport Secretary to Uphold Suspension of BMW Dealer’s Trade Certificate

Panaji, May 20: RTI activist and social worker Sudip Narayan Tamankar has urged the Transport Secretary, Government of Goa, to uphold the suspension of the trade certificate of Bavaria Motors, the BMW vehicle dealer in Goa.

In a representation submitted to the Transport Secretary on May 20, Tamankar congratulated the Assistant Director of Transport, Margao, and the Director of Transport for suspending the trade certificate of Bavaria Motors for 90 days. He stated that the action has restored some confidence among the public that the Transport Department is taking cognizance of violations and acting against wrongdoers.

Tamankar claimed that there is apprehension that the dealer, which is also reportedly authorised for BMW vehicles in Maharashtra, may bring vehicles from Pune on temporary registration and sell them in Goa. He alleged that such a practice would be against the Motor Vehicles Act and Rules.

He further stated that the Transport Department should ensure that the dealer’s portal connected to the Vahan portal is blocked, thereby preventing the dealer from registering any vehicle during the suspension period.

Referring to the fatal accident that occurred at Dona Paula on April 5, 2026, Tamankar alleged that the vehicle involved had been handed over without registration due to negligence on the part of the showroom dealer. He urged the government not to grant any relaxation in the suspension period, stating that doing so would weaken public trust in the Transport Department.

Tamankar also pointed out that the suspension order passed by the Director of Transport can be challenged before the Transport Secretary as per the provisions of the Motor Vehicles Act and Rules. He therefore requested the Secretary to take serious cognizance of the matter in larger public interest and ensure that the 90-day suspension remains in force.
