WRD Forwards Complaint on Alleged Illegal Excavation from Amberem Nallah in Pernem

Pernem, June 24: The Goa Water Resources Department (WRD) has forwarded a complaint alleging illegal excavation of earth, unauthorized extraction and transportation of minor minerals from Amberem Nallah in Pernem for necessary action.

According to an official communication dated June 22, 2026, issued by the Engineering Officer of the Water Resources Department, the complaint submitted by social activist Sudip Narayan Tamankar has been forwarded to the Superintending Engineer, Circle-II, WRD, Karaswada. The department has directed the concerned authority to take necessary action and furnish a report directly to the complainant, with intimation to the WRD office.

The complaint alleges illegal excavation of earth and extraction of minor minerals from Amberem Nallah at Amberem-Porascadem in Pernem Taluka. It further claims that the excavated material is being transported and utilized for National Highway (NH-66) construction works at Naibag, Pernem. The complainant has sought immediate site inspection, verification of permissions and licences, and a halt to any illegal activities found during the inquiry.

Tamankar has also alleged that large quantities of river pebbles, gravel, boulders and sand are being removed from the nallah without the required statutory permissions. He has expressed concern over the possible environmental impact, including damage to the natural watercourse, increased flood risk and adverse effects on groundwater recharge.

With the complaint now officially referred to the concerned WRD authority, attention will be focused on the findings of the inspection and whether any violations of mining, environmental or water resource regulations are established.
