Patradevi, 26 August: Defence Minister Rajnath Singh inaugurated the newly developed Hutatma Smruti Smarak at Patradevi in the presence of Goa Chief Minister Dr. Pramod Sawant, who paid tributes to the martyrs and Satyagrahis who sacrificed their lives during Goa’s Liberation Struggle.

Speaking on the occasion, Sawant described the Patradevi Satyagraha as an important and deeply inspiring chapter in the history of Goa’s freedom movement.

He said the courage and sacrifice of the Satyagrahis, who fearlessly stood for Goa’s freedom while carrying the Tricolour and the spirit of nationalism, would remain permanently etched in the collective memory of the people.

The Chief Minister paid homage to the martyrs who made the supreme sacrifice for Goa’s liberation and said their contribution must continue to inspire future generations.

Sawant said the Hutatma Smruti Smarak would serve as a permanent tribute to the brave souls who fought for Goa’s freedom and ensure that the history of their sacrifice is preserved and passed on to generations to come.

Highlighting the strategic location of the memorial at Patradevi, an important gateway to Goa, the Chief Minister said it would also help visitors learn about the history and significance of Goa’s Liberation Struggle.

He stressed that Goa’s liberation was not merely a regional struggle but a national cause, strengthened by the courage, sacrifice and unity of Indians from different parts of the country.

The memorial, Sawant said, would remind every Indian of the sacrifices made by freedom fighters and Satyagrahis and keep alive the spirit of patriotism associated with Goa’s historic liberation movement.
