Panaji, April 9, 2026:
In the wake of a recent fatal accident on the Dona Paula–University Road, RTI activist Sudip Narayan Tamankar has submitted a formal representation to the North Goa Collector, urging immediate installation of speed breakers on the accident-prone stretch.
In his letter dated April 9, Tamankar highlighted a tragic incident in which a 23-year-old woman lost her life while a 26-year-old man sustained serious injuries after being hit by an allegedly overspeeding car. The victims were reportedly employees of a nearby star hotel and were attempting to cross the road when the accident occurred.
The representation points to structural safety concerns on the road, particularly gaps in the median/divider that pedestrians use for crossing. Tamankar noted that a similar gap exists near a hospital located around 100 meters away, where accidents of a similar nature have reportedly occurred frequently.
Citing public safety concerns, he has requested authorities to urgently install speed breakers on both sides of the identified locations to compel motorists to reduce speed and prevent further loss of life.
The letter has been submitted in the larger public interest, with a call for immediate intervention by the concerned authorities to address the recurring safety hazard on this busy stretch.
