Sanguem, May 2, 2026: A shocking incid ent has come to light from the Aglot–Sacorda area, where a striped tiger was found dead under suspicious circumstances, raising serious concerns among environmentalists and wildlife activists.
According to initial reports, the carcass of the tiger was discovered with its nails and teeth missing, indicating possible poaching or deliberate tampering. The disturbing nature of the findings has intensified fears of illegal wildlife activities in the region.
Prominent environmentalist Rajendra Kerkar has questioned the repeated claims that Goa has no tiger presence. “If there are no tigers in Goa, how are such incidents happening?” he asked, calling for transparency and a thorough investigation.
The incident has also brought the functioning of the Mollem Forest Department under scrutiny. Activists have alleged ongoing large-scale illegal tree felling in the Mollem region, suggesting a pattern of weak enforcement and environmental neglect.
With the death of a tiger now added to the list of concerns, pressure is mounting on forest authorities to conduct a detailed probe, identify those responsible, and strengthen wildlife protection measures.
The case has triggered widespread concern over the state of wildlife conservation in Goa, with calls for accountability and urgent intervention to prevent further such incidents.
