Pernem:
A 72-year-old widow from Dhargalim has lodged a formal complaint at Pernem Police Station alleging criminal conspiracy and misuse of authority by the Village Panchayat Secretary of Dhargalim.
According to the complaint submitted by Taramati H. Ganoji, she suspects collusion between the Panchayat Secretary and unidentified individuals allegedly attempting to grab the land on which her ancestral house stands. The complainant stated that her residential house has existed since before Goa’s liberation and has been maintained and renovated over the years.
She has alleged that the Panchayat Secretary, acting in connivance with others, is planning to demolish her house without any prior notice, thereby rendering her and her family homeless. The complaint further states that no official notice declaring the structure illegal or unauthorized has ever been served to her.
Ganoji also claimed that she learned through others that steps were being taken to requisition a demolition squad to carry out the demolition at any time without informing her.
The property in question is located under Survey No. 239/1 of Village Dhargalim, Pernem.
In her complaint, she has urged the police to register a case of criminal conspiracy and take appropriate action against the Panchayat Secretary if abuse of power is established. She has also sought initiation of criminal proceedings in the interest of justice.
Meanwhile, legal provisions and recent judicial observations stress that any demolition action must follow due process, including prior notice and an opportunity to be heard, reinforcing the complainant’s concerns over alleged arbitrary action.
Police have acknowledged receipt of the complaint, and further inquiry is expected.
