PM Narendra Modi Extends Goa Statehood Day Greetings, Praises Goa’s Growth and Cultural Legacy

Panaji, May 30: Prime Minister Narendra Modi extended warm greetings to the people of Goa on the occasion of Goa Statehood Day, describing the state as a symbol of India’s rich cultural heritage, social harmony and developmental progress.

In a detailed letter addressed to Chief Minister Dr. Pramod Sawant, the Prime Minister said Goa occupies a special place in the heart of every Indian and has made immense contributions to the nation through its culture, spirituality, biodiversity, tourism, scholarship and hospitality.

Calling Goa Statehood Day a moment of immense pride for every Goan and the entire nation, Modi said Goa’s unique identity and vibrant culture continue to strengthen India’s developmental journey.

The Prime Minister recalled several personal experiences and visits to Goa, including his participation in Goa Liberation Day events in December 2021 and the 550th year celebrations of the Shree Samsthan Gokarn Partagali Jeevottam Math in November 2025. He also remembered the emotional reception of the relics of Saint Queen Ketevan discovered in Goa and welcomed in Georgia.

Praising the people of Goa, Modi said Goans have excelled in various fields including education, medicine, entrepreneurship, sports, arts and public service. He added that Goa’s maritime traditions and tourism sector have enhanced India’s global image.

The Prime Minister also appreciated the Goa Government under the leadership of Chief Minister Dr. Pramod Sawant for implementing innovative initiatives across sectors. He particularly highlighted the “Swayampurna Goa” initiative, stating that it had strengthened grassroots governance and empowered local communities.

Modi further referred to Goa’s Purple Fest, describing it as a remarkable example of inclusive development and social sensitivity towards Divyang citizens.

The Prime Minister stated that the Goa Government’s connection with the aspirations of the people was reflected in the recently concluded Zilla Panchayat elections, where voters once again placed their trust in the NDA’s governance agenda.

Highlighting the Centre’s support for Goa, Modi said projects worth over ₹10,000 crore had been sanctioned for the state in the last year alone, covering highways, tourism infrastructure, irrigation systems, higher education and urban development.

He also noted that Goa had achieved full functional literacy under the ULLAS initiative, making it one of the leading states in the country in this regard.

Looking towards the future, Modi urged the Goa Government to continue working towards the vision of “Viksit Goa” as part of the larger goal of building “Viksit Bharat 2047”. He said Goa has the potential to emerge as a global model for sustainable growth, innovation, clean energy, marine economy and cultural preservation.

The Prime Minister stressed the importance of preserving Goa’s ecological balance and cultural identity while pursuing development. He also highlighted opportunities in eco-tourism, blue economy initiatives, digital innovation, startups, skill development and sports.

Referring to Goa hosting the 37th National Games and Ironman events, Modi said the state has demonstrated its strength in sports and hospitality and can emerge as a leader in beach games and sports tourism.

Concluding his message, Prime Minister Modi conveyed his heartfelt greetings to the people of Goa and expressed confidence that the state would continue to achieve new milestones of progress and innovation in the years ahead.
