Panaji, 13 September: Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) National Convenor Arvind Kejriwal arrived in Goa on Saturday for a three-day visit and announced that he will address an important press conference at 3 pm on Sunday, September 13, triggering political speculation over AAP’s strategy for the 2027 Goa Assembly elections.

Kejriwal, on his arrival, indicated that a significant political announcement would be made during the press conference. With opposition parties currently engaged in discussions over possible alliances, his visit has assumed added political importance.

The development comes amid growing speculation about a possible understanding between AAP and the Goa Forward Party (GFP). Joint AAP-GFP hoardings appearing along the highway have added to the speculation, although the exact nature of Kejriwal’s proposed announcement will become clear only at Sunday’s press conference.

Meanwhile, the Goa Forward Party has been advocating the formation of a united political alternative to take on the BJP in the 2027 Assembly elections. Its State Executive recently called for cooperation among like-minded political forces under a “Goa First” approach.

The Congress, however, has maintained that GFP continues to be its alliance partner and that discussions with the party leadership are still underway. Goa Pradesh Congress Committee President Girish Chodankar has questioned the joint GFP-AAP hoardings and alleged that attempts are being made to create confusion among voters.

At the same time, Congress and the Revolutionary Goans Party (RGP) have held discussions on a possible alliance. The talks have focused on preparing a Common Minimum Programme covering issues including POGO, environmental protection and other matters concerning Goa, while the question of seat-sharing is expected to be discussed later.

The possibility of Congress and AAP coming together also appears to face political hurdles. South Goa Congress MP Capt. Viriato Fernandes has demanded that Kejriwal first apologise to former GPCC president Amit Patkar over allegations and criticism directed at Patkar during the Zilla Panchayat election campaign before discussing any alliance with Congress.

These simultaneous developments have placed opposition unity at the centre of Goa’s political discourse. While Congress is attempting to bring together anti-BJP forces, AAP, GFP and RGP are also positioning themselves ahead of the Assembly elections.

Kejriwal’s announcement at 3 pm on Sunday is therefore being closely watched, particularly for clarity on whether AAP intends to enter into a formal electoral understanding with GFP or unveil a different political strategy for Goa.

With the 2027 Assembly elections approaching, the announcement could provide an important indication of how Goa’s opposition alliances and political equations are likely to take shape.
