Mormugao, 8 August : Goa Congress OBC Department Chairman Sharad (Nitin) Chopdekar has questioned the BJP Government’s priorities after RTI documents revealed expenditure exceeding ₹2.53 crore plus GST on the Mormugao Summer Festival 2026.

Chopdekar alleged that while crores were spent on entertainment, residents continue to struggle with irregular water supply, inadequate sewage infrastructure, unemployment, poor civic amenities and security concerns.

He said the RTI response reportedly recorded “No information available” against crucial queries concerning the justification for the expenditure, projected footfall, economic and tourism benefits, and internal approvals.

“Mormugao needs development that remains after the stage is dismantled—not a few days of entertainment followed by years of neglected civic problems,” Chopdekar said.

He demanded that the Government and GTDC publish the festival’s item-wise expenditure, bills, invoices, work orders, contracts and approval records, besides ordering an independent audit.

Chopdekar said funds should instead prioritise water supply, sewage pumping stations, employment for local youth and the upgradation of Sada Market, Rose Circle Ground and the public swimming pool.

“Mormugao does not need showbaazi. It needs water, jobs, security and basic facilities,” he asserted.
