Environment Activist Approaches DySP Over Valpoi Police’s Alleged Inaction on Illegal Stone Quarrying

VALPOI, JULY 23: Environmental activist Harish Tulaskar has approached the Deputy Superintendent of Police (DySP), Bicholim Sub-Division, alleging inaction by the Valpoi Police over complaints concerning illegal stone quarrying at two locations in Sattari.

According to Tulaskar, he had lodged complaints on July 15 with the Valpoi Police Station, Forest Department and Goa State Pollution Control Board (GSPCB), bringing to their notice alleged illegal stone quarrying activities at Survey No. 4/1 at Malpan, Sattari, and Survey No. 23/1 at Xelpo Curdo, Gawane, Sattari.

Tulaskar alleged that despite providing details of the quarrying activities and seeking intervention, the Valpoi Police failed to initiate action to stop the operations. He claimed that the alleged illegal quarrying continues unabated, raising concerns over its environmental impact and enforcement of the law.

Following the alleged lack of action at the police station level, Tulaskar has now escalated the matter to the DySP, Bicholim Sub-Division. In his complaint, he has sought the senior police officer’s intervention to ensure immediate action against those allegedly involved in the quarrying activities.

The activist has also sought an inquiry into the alleged failure of the Valpoi Police Inspector to act on his earlier complaint. He has urged the authorities to inspect both sites immediately, verify the legality of the quarrying operations and initiate appropriate legal proceedings if violations are detected.

Tulaskar has maintained that complaints involving alleged environmental violations and unauthorised extraction of natural resources require prompt action from the authorities and should not be allowed to remain unattended.

The complaint has now put the focus on the Valpoi Police and other regulatory authorities, with the activist seeking immediate intervention to halt the alleged illegal quarrying and fix responsibility for any lapses in enforcement.
