Goa’s Disaster Management Has Become a Disaster: LoP Yuri Alemao
Panaji: Leader of Opposition Yuri Alemao, during Zero Hour in the Assembly, strongly criticized the state’s disaster management system, stating that it has itself become a “disaster.”

Alemao highlighted the recent incident involving the overturning of a Hindustan Petroleum Corporation Limited LPG tanker on National Highway 66 at Padi in South Goa, where rescue operations reportedly took 18 hours to begin. “This incident exposes the State’s lack of preparedness and the highly inadequate mechanisms currently in place for effective disaster management,” he said.

He stressed that Goa’s disaster management framework must be upgraded to match the level and type of development being planned and projected in the state.

Other States Preparing for LPG Supply; Goa Govt Failed: Alemao
On Thursday, Alemao also raised concerns over the state government’s failure to ensure uninterrupted LPG supply amid the ongoing global crisis. He pointed out that while other states are proactively taking measures to avoid shortages, Goa’s BJP-led government remains “sushegad” on the issue.

“Does this Government expect people to fill empty cylinders with air pumps? The Chief Minister mocks citizens with his repeated pat phrase ‘Bhivpachi Garaj Na’,” Alemao remarked.

He further noted that several LPG agencies are not responding to phone calls and bookings are being handled in an erratic manner. Alemao demanded immediate government intervention to prevent further complications, urging coordination with the Centre to guarantee smooth LPG supply to the people of Goa.
