Prabhav Naik Seeks Transparency on Proposed Hydraulic Parking Project in Margao

Margao, June 11: Youth leader and Madganvcho Awaaz representative Prabhav Naik has sought detailed information from the Goa State Urban Development Agency (GSUDA) regarding the feasibility, viability and long-term sustainability of the proposed Hydraulic Parking Project in Margao. In a letter addressed to the Member Secretary of GSUDA, Naik expressed concerns over recent statements made by Minister Digambar Kamat regarding the proposed project. He cautioned that hydraulic parking systems require regular servicing, dedicated manpower and are often vulnerable to corrosion and operational issues in humid coastal regions such as Goa.Naik noted that considering the challenges faced by the Margao Municipal Council (MMC) in maintaining existing infrastructure and vehicles, there is a genuine risk that the proposed project could eventually become a non-functional “white elephant,” leading to wastage of public funds.Seeking greater transparency, Naik has requested GSUDA to disclose whether any technical or feasibility studies have been conducted to assess the suitability of hydraulic parking systems in Goa’s climatic conditions. He has also sought details of similar hydraulic parking projects implemented through GSUDA or other agencies, including the number of such projects currently functioning successfully.Further, Naik has requested information on the financial and operational model proposed for the Margao project, particularly regarding maintenance responsibilities, manpower requirements and long-term operational sustainability. The youth leader has also asked GSUDA to reveal details of consultants appointed for the project, their experience in executing similar projects in India and abroad, especially in coastal regions with climatic conditions comparable to Goa, along with expenditure incurred so far.Referring to the recently presented Margao Master Plan 2041 and the State Government’s announcement to develop Margao as a Smart City with Central Government support, Naik questioned whether the proposed Hydraulic Parking Project aligns with the broader vision of the Master Plan and the Smart City initiative.Emphasizing the importance of accountability in public infrastructure projects, Naik urged GSUDA to carefully evaluate all aspects of the proposal before committing public funds and to ensure complete transparency in the decision-making process. He has requested an early response from the agency, stating that citizens have a right to know whether the project is technically viable, financially sustainable and in the best interests of Margao city.
