Goa Seva Dal Chief Rajan Ghate Detained During Delhi Protest

New Delhi, July 22: Goa Pradesh Seva Dal Chief Organiser Rajan Ghate was detained by the Delhi Police on Wednesday along with several members of the All India Seva Dal while participating in a peaceful protest programme in the national capital.

According to a statement issued by the Goa Pradesh Seva Dal, the volunteers had gathered at Kisan Bhavan for a flag-hoisting programme dressed in the traditional Seva Dal uniform of a white shirt, white trousers and Gandhi cap. The organisation alleged that the Delhi Police detained the volunteers without any inquiry or provocation and took them to the Hazrat Nizamuddin Police Station.

The Seva Dal said the volunteers were participating in a peaceful democratic protest demanding the resignation of Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan over the ongoing education crisis and expressing support for the demand raised by Leader of Opposition Rahul Gandhi for a full discussion on the NEET issue in Parliament.

The organisation further claimed that after being detained, Rajan Ghate and other Seva Dal volunteers were shifted in private buses to an undisclosed location without being informed of their destination. It described the action as a serious infringement on the right to peaceful democratic protest.

Condemning the detentions, the Goa Pradesh Seva Dal alleged that the move was an attempt to suppress democratic voices standing in solidarity with students and youth. The organisation reiterated its support for the demand for a transparent, fair and accountable education system and affirmed its commitment to safeguarding constitutional values, democratic rights and peaceful movements seeking educational reforms.
