Private Bus Operators Seek 10,490 sq. m. Land at Patto for Dedicated Parking Facility

Panaji, August 1: The All Goa Private Bus Owners Association has urged the Goa Transport Department to allot 10,490 square metres of vacant land at Patto, Panaji, for use as a dedicated parking facility for private buses.

In a representation submitted to the Director of Transport on July 30, 2026, the Association’s General Secretary, Sudip Narayan Tamankar, stated that the Transport Department owns a 17,490 sq. m. plot at Patto. Of this, 7,000 sq. m. has already been earmarked for electric vehicle charging infrastructure for electric buses operated under Kadamba Transport Corporation.

According to the representation, the remaining 10,490 sq. m. of land is presently lying unutilised and could be effectively used to address the long-standing shortage of parking space for private buses in the capital city.

Tamankar pointed out that the absence of dedicated parking facilities forces private buses to park along major roads, leading to traffic congestion, safety hazards for commuters, and an increased risk of damage to vehicles.

He further argued that utilising the vacant land for private bus parking would improve traffic management, provide a secure parking space for operators, and strengthen the existing public transport hub at Patto, where transport infrastructure already exists.

The Association has appealed to the Transport Department to urgently consider the request and grant permission for the remaining land to be used for private bus parking.
