Sakhlim, Oct. 1: AICC General Secretary and Punjab in-charge Sachin Pilot will join the Congress party’s ongoing Goy Rakhonn Yatra in the Sakhlim (Sanquelim) constituency on October 2 as part of a special Gandhi Jayanti programme.

Pilot will walk with the Yatris along with senior AICC and Goa Congress leaders as the Yatra seeks to highlight issues concerning Goa’s land, environment, employment, heritage, governance and identity.

AICC Goa in-charge Manickrao Thakare, Co-in-charge Dr Anjali Nimbalkar, GPCC President Girish Chodankar, Leader of Opposition Yuri Alemao and South Goa MP Captain Viriato Fernandes are among the leaders scheduled to participate.

GPCC Working Presidents Carlos Alvares Ferreira, Altone D’Costa, M.K. Shaikh and Sunil Kawthankar, besides district presidents, senior party office-bearers and representatives of the Mahila Congress, Youth Congress, Seva Dal, NSUI and other frontal organisations, are also expected to join the programme.

The Goy Rakhonn Yatra, which began on September 22, is scheduled to cover all 40 Assembly constituencies in Goa. Through the campaign, the Congress has been raising issues related to land protection, environment, unemployment, infrastructure, governance and preservation of Goa’s identity.

The Congress said the Gandhi Jayanti programme at Sakhlim would focus on Mahatma Gandhi’s principles of truth, non-violence, communal harmony, social justice and democratic participation, while linking them with contemporary issues confronting Goa.

The GPCC has appealed to party workers, supporters and citizens from Sakhlim and neighbouring areas to participate in the programme.
