Panaji, Sept 24: Goa Health and Town and Country Planning Minister Vishwajit Rane’s series of meetings with senior BJP and Union government figures in New Delhi has attracted political attention at a time when activity within both the ruling BJP and the Opposition is intensifying ahead of the 2027 Goa Assembly election.

 

Rane met Union Home Minister Amit Shah and described the interaction as an opportunity to discuss “various important matters”, while expressing gratitude for Shah’s guidance and encouragement. He also met Union Environment Minister Bhupender Yadav, with Rane saying their discussion covered protection of Goa’s mangroves, salt pans, paddy fields and heritage, as well as conservation measures. Separately, Rane met BJP national general secretary (organisation) B. L. Santhosh, describing the interaction as valuable and focused on various matters.

The precise political or organisational issues discussed in the meetings have not been publicly detailed.

However, the timing gives the meetings added political significance. Goa is moving closer to the 2027 Assembly election, and political activity has already intensified, including in Rane’s home turf of Sattari. Recent reporting has noted increased activity in both Valpoi and Poriem, with several potential political aspirants becoming more visible.

Rane himself has recently stepped up his political messaging. On September 23, he dismissed the likely electoral impact of Congress’s “Goy Rakhonn Yatra” and publicly asserted that the BJP would return to power after the 2027 election. That is Rane’s political claim, not an independently established forecast of the election outcome.

A day later, Rane also responded sharply to his political opponents, alleging that he possessed chats involving some of those criticising him and saying he would make them public at an appropriate time. He simultaneously defended his record as TCP Minister, saying only 14 lakh square metres—0.296%—had been converted under Regional Plan 2021 during the last four-and-a-half years, while 20 crore square metres had been classified as no-development area. These figures are Rane’s stated figures.

The Delhi meetings also come amid organisational changes in the Goa BJP. Dr Bharati Pravin Pawar has been appointed the party’s Goa in-charge, with Anil Antony as co-in-charge, adding another element to the party’s preparations ahead of the next Assembly election.

At the same time, the Opposition has been increasing its activity. Congress’s Goy Rakhonn Yatra is underway, and AICC general secretary K. C. Venugopal has publicly said Congress is open to a broader alliance in Goa.

Rane’s meeting with Bhupender Yadav also carries an administrative dimension because land use and environmental protection remain prominent issues in Goa’s political debate. His stated focus on mangroves, paddy fields, salt pans and conservation comes while the TCP portfolio continues to face scrutiny from opposition parties and civic groups over development and land-use policies.

The meeting with Amit Shah is similarly notable in the broader BJP context. Shah was in Goa earlier this month and held an official review meeting on Goa-related issues with Chief Minister Pramod Sawant on September 6, according to the Union Home Ministry.

Taken together, Rane’s meetings with Shah, Yadav and Santhosh place him in direct interaction with senior figures in the Union government and BJP organisation at a politically active moment. What emerged from those discussions beyond the subjects Rane has publicly disclosed, however, is not known.
