Panaji, June 25, 2026 – The Goa Pradesh Congress Committee has strongly condemned the brutal daylight murder of senior citizen Shri Krishna Naik (60) at Chicalim-Colvale on June 24, calling it a grim reflection of the deteriorating law and order situation in the state.
Congress Media and Communications Department Chairman Amarnath Panjikar demanded the immediate arrest of all accused, stressing that the incident highlights how emboldened criminal elements have become under the BJP Government.
According to eyewitness accounts, Naik was attacked after objecting to a group of youths allegedly consuming alcohol and riding motorcycles recklessly near his residence. The attackers reportedly abused him, called him outside, and then launched a vicious assault using blunt objects. Neighbours who tried to intervene were also assaulted.
Naik was rushed to Goa Medical College but succumbed to his injuries. Reports suggest the attackers even attempted to crush his head with a large stone before fleeing when more residents gathered at the scene.
Panjikar alleged that such crimes are rising because “anti-social elements enjoy protection and patronage from those in power,” leaving ordinary citizens, especially senior citizens, unsafe even in their own homes.
The Congress Party has demanded:
• Arrest of all four accused within 24 hours.
• A thorough probe into the conspiracy angle.
• Strict action under the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS).
• Fast-track investigation and prosecution to ensure swift justice.
Expressing condolences to the bereaved family, Panjikar said, “The brutal killing of Shri Krishna Naik cannot be allowed to become just another statistic. The Government and police machinery must act decisively and send a strong message that such barbaric acts will not be tolerated in Goa.”
