*Cuncolim, Aug. 4*: Residents of Cuncolim have submitted a memorandum to the Cuncolim Police Station demanding immediate safety measures on the accident-prone stretch of National Highway 66 between the Cuncolim Bus Stand and Demani, following a series of fatal road accidents in recent months.

The citizens stated that the latest fatal accident, involving a retired Cuncolim Municipal Council employee, was the third such death reported on the stretch within the last three months. They described the situation as a serious road safety concern requiring urgent intervention.

In their memorandum, residents urged the police to officially declare the stretch an accident blackspot and initiate preventive measures to avoid further loss of life. They alleged that poor road engineering and faulty drainage are the primary causes of the recurring accidents.

The memorandum also calls upon the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) and the Public Works Department (PWD) to immediately rectify the alleged design defects. Additionally, the residents have sought accountability and legal action against officials they believe are responsible for the unsafe road conditions.

The citizens emphasized that urgent corrective measures are essential to improve safety on the busy highway and prevent further fatalities.
