Health Department Orders Joint Inspection of Comba Sewage Menace Following Prabhav Naik’s Complaint

Margao, November 2: The Directorate of Health Services has scheduled a joint inspection of sewage-affected wells, rainwater drains and suspected sewage discharge points at Comba, Margao, on Tuesday, November 3, 2026, at 11 a.m., following a complaint lodged by Madganvcho Awaaz Youth Leader Prabhav Naik.

The inspection follows a memorandum submitted by Naik to Health and Urban Development Minister Vishwajit Rane, highlighting the longstanding sewage problem in the area and demanding urgent corrective measures.

During the Sarkar Tumchya Dari programme held in Margao on October 17, Naik personally brought the issue to the Minister’s attention and requested an on-site inspection. Rane subsequently directed the concerned authorities to initiate necessary action.

Acting on these directions, the Urban Health Centre, Margao, issued an official communication on October 30 to the Chief Officer of Margao Municipal Council, the General Manager of the Sewerage & Infrastructural Development Corporation of Goa Ltd. and Prabhav Naik, informing them about the joint inspection.

The authorities have been asked to participate in the inspection, provide technical inputs and submit written observations to facilitate the preparation of a detailed report for the Health Minister.

Naik has raised concerns over recurring sewage leakages, suspected contamination of traditional wells and the alleged discharge of sewage through rainwater drains into a nallah connected to the River Sal.

He pointed out that several traditional wells in the locality also hold religious significance and are used for rituals, including Ganesh Visarjan. He demanded permanent measures to prevent sewage contamination and protect public health and the environment.

Welcoming the inspection, Naik thanked Health Minister Vishwajit Rane for responding to the complaint and initiating action.

“I thank Health Minister Bab Vishwajit Rane for directing a joint inspection of the Comba sewage menace. I appeal for his continued cooperation in ensuring a permanent solution,” Naik stated.

He further asserted that Madganvcho Awaaz would continue pursuing the matter until a lasting solution is implemented.
