Assistant Directors of Transport Under Scanner Over BMW Registrations During Suspension Period

Panaji, June 9: RTI activist and social worker Sudip Narayan Tamankar has sought a preliminary inquiry against the Assistant Directors of Transport posted at Mapusa, Margao and Vasco, alleging that BMW vehicles linked to a dealer whose trade certificate was suspended have continued to be registered in Goa in violation of departmental orders.

In a representation submitted to the Director of Transport on June 9, Tamankar alleged that despite the suspension of the trade certificate of Bavaria Motors, the dealer of BMW vehicles in Goa, certain BMW vehicles sold through the dealer’s Pune showroom were registered in Goa during the suspension period.

Tamankar stated that the Transport Department had earlier suspended the trade certificate of Bavaria Motors for 90 days, following complaints arising from the fatal Mini Cooper accident at Dona Paula. He claimed that the suspension was intended to prevent the dealer from conducting vehicle registration-related transactions and restore public confidence in the enforcement of motor vehicle laws.

According to the complaint, once a trade certificate is suspended, the dealer’s access to the Vahan portal should be blocked, preventing the generation of temporary registration numbers and further vehicle sales transactions. Tamankar questioned how vehicles arriving from another state on temporary registration could subsequently be registered in Goa if the suspension was being properly enforced.

He alleged that the registration of such vehicles defeats the very purpose of the disciplinary action initiated by the Transport Department and raises serious concerns about compliance with the Director of Transport’s order.

The activist has demanded a preliminary inquiry into the role of the Assistant Directors of Transport at Mapusa, Margao and Vasco. He further sought immediate suspension of the concerned officers if the allegations are found to be true.

Tamankar also linked the issue to the ongoing controversy surrounding the fatal Dona Paula accident in which Diksha Parwarkar lost her life, arguing that any relaxation or circumvention of the suspension order would amount to denial of justice and undermine public trust in the Transport Department.

A copy of the representation has also been forwarded to the Transport Secretary, Government of Goa, seeking urgent intervention and action in the matter.
